A succinct statement and defence of Bible Doctrine and Reformation Principles with respect to the institutions of Church and State.  This title was first published in America in 1803, and was quickly put in print and circulated in Britain to supply similar needs there.  In a time when formerly Christian societies were quickly departing from any authentic recognition of the authority of Jesus Christ over national society, this publication was precisely what was needed.

The author, Samuel B. Wylie, came to America from Ireland in the late 1700s.  He quickly found an important role in the Covenanter church, and was zealous in eliminating from the church all participation in American slavery.  Among his other publications were a sermon on the Obligation of Covenants, and a Greek Grammar, compiled after serving as professor of Latin and Greek at the University of Pennsylvania for many years.
